Lifestyle and Culture

The lifestyle and culture of Filipinos, is a wide and ever changing one, which is perfect for this island nation. The primary ancestors of the indigenous people of the Philippines were the Malays. The Malays came from what is now Indonesia in SE Asia. The official discovery of the Philippines is credited to Ferdinand Magellan of Spain in 1521. In actuality, the island nation was pre-discovered by Chinese businessmen who came to the archipelago and created a home away from home so to speak. The US history and the European history books shamelessly leave out this bit of factual information, yet it matters not as the Chinese-Filipino mixed races are alive and well in the Philippines.

Mestizo-Mestizas

There are many mixed races and ethnicity to be found in the Philippines. This only adds to the mystique and the charm of the islands as the cultural hodge-podge that came from this melting pot atmosphere has created a fantastic location. The Spanish-Filipino mix or mestizo-mestizas, is one of the most interesting since the Spanish kept the Philippines under colonial rule for centuries before being escorted out in a bloodless rebellion. That’s the beauty of the Filipina people as they have escorted not one but two foreign invaders from their island nation. Incredible. Peace over bloodshed is a strong sentiment here in the Philippines, and is as big a part of the heritage of the Filipino people as Christianity.

A Culture of Giving

The Filipino people have a diverse and ever-changing cultural heritage. That is the reason that the entire country celebrates the overthrow of the regimes that invaded this peaceful island country. Filipino people are known to be very hospitable and share just about anything they possess with everyone who visits their homes. If a traveler becomes lost and is hungry, the Filipino family will take them in and feed them. Not only that but the culture is so steeped in the tradition of giving to others that it is deemed rude to not offer what they have at all times. This goes against the grain of most other nations and humans in general and makes the lifestyle of the Filipino people that much more inviting! To interact with the Filipino populace is to meet and mingle with some of the most fantastic and friendly people on the planet.

Respect of Elderly and Environment

The respect for the elders of the Filipino families extends into the entire country as well. The elderly are revered and respected above all others in a family and in the lifestyle of the Filipinos. Anyone that comes to the Republic of the Philippines for a vacation or longer will immediately feel the lifestyle that is heralded worldwide as one of the friendliest of all!
