Cebu

The city of Cebu is one of the most dynamic and historical locations to visit while in the Philippines. This lively and vibrant city is one of the most popular tourist’s destinations in the entire Republic of the Philippines. The history of this Southeast Asian jewel is one of war and redemption. In WWII, the Imperial Forces of Japan invaded the Philippines and one of the bloodiest battles of all the war took place in and around the city of Cebu. The Battle of Corregidor involved the armies of the Philippines, Japan, and the United States. In the end the Japanese occupation of the Philippines was ended and the city of Cebu was an important victory for the Filipino people and the United States. Cebu has historical reminders of that titanic battle and the strength of the Filipino people in monuments and statues of various heroes of the war. Throughout the waters off Cebu lay hundreds of Japanese and American warplanes that were shot down or ditched in the battle. These wrecks provide some of the best scuba diving opportunities the world has ever known.
